Evolution of Chlorophyll Biosynthesis—The Challenge to Survive Photooxidation
ation of mechanisms that confer photoprotection on *Institute for Plant Sciences plants is particularly important because it may provide Department of Genetics the basis for the construction of new, porphyrin-based Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) photobleaching herbicides to be exploited in modern ETH-Zentrum weed control. It is the aim of this review to summarize Universität...
متن کاملMechanism of photooxidation of bacteriochlorophyll c derivatives. A possible model for natural chlorophyll breakdown.
The photooxidation of methyl pheophorbides, derived from bacteriochlorophyll c, yields ring-opened acetylbilitrienes which are structurally related to mammalian bile pigments. The mechanism of this photooxidation, and that of certain mesomethyl-substituted model compounds, has been studied using 18O labeling with molecular oxygen. In all cases, the methine bridge carbon atoms were retained in t...
متن کاملIDDQ Test: Will It Survive the DSM Challenge?
As transistor geometries are reduced, leakage current increases. Due to increased levels and process variation, IDDQ test faces difficult challenges for deep sub-micron technologies. Several solutions have been proposed in the literature. This paper provides an overview of some of the solutions. Some views on the future of IDDQ testing are also presented.
متن کاملA challenge to human evolution—cognitive dissonance
COGNITIVE DISSONANCE CHALLENGES A POSSIBILITY OF HUMAN EVOLUTION Cognitive dissonance (CD) is a discomfort caused by holding conflicting elements of knowledge. CD is among “the most influential and extensively studied theories in social psychology” (e.g., Alfnes et al., 2010, p. 147). It is well known that this discomfort is usually resolved by devaluing and discarding a conflicting piece of kn...
متن کاملLearning to Survive
The paper discusses possible ways for an autonomous robotic agent to learn to survive. Pitfalls linked with this task and possibilities to overcome them are investigated. This is done in respect to an existing real-world setup and concrete learning approaches as well as on a general level. The connection between the energy-level of a robotic agent and its survivability is examined in some detail.
